In what appears to be a case of the rich experimenting on their version of life for a transhumanist agenda, the UK Telegraph reports that by sometime in the fall of 2012, we will be happily munching on burgers made from meat grown in a lab. Yes, that’s right.Well there's a hell of a lot wrong with that, and for more, read here.
Pro. Post said his team has successfully replicated the process with cow cells and calf serum, bringing the first artificial burger a step closer. He said: “In October we are going to provide a proof of concept showing out of stem cells we can make a product that looks, feels and hopefully tastes like meat.”
Why should we be concerned with this? After all, benefits would include slaughtering fewer animals. What could possibly be wrong with that?
ANIMAL FORTEANA
In the beginning of things men were animals and animals men. ~ Algonquin saying
"For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much — the wheel, New York, wars and so on — whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man — for precisely the same reasons." ~ The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Fish Police
I loved this show; so sad it didn't last long. Here's the Wikipedia link for some background:
Fish Police is the name of a comic book series by cartoonist Steven Moncuse. The plot centers on law and crime in a fictional underwater metropolis with the protagonist, Inspector Gill, trying to solve various, often Mafia-related, crimes while avoiding being seduced by the extremely well-endowed Angel. The comic featured several marine species as its characters, while the plots and dialogue were reminiscent of film noir.

Release the Kraken, er, Meme!
The meme has been released that the chupacabras mystery has been solved, thanks to skeptic Ben Radford's theory that a witness confused/overlaid imagery from a sci-fi movie onto some kind of creature she saw but was unfamiliar with. Of course, nothing has been "solved" instead, an interesting theory has been presented that may help explain part of a complex phenomena. But, for those who need to find closure to mysterious events, this theory will be held up as proof the chupacabras was only a case of misidentification.
No one will ever know what's really happening here; trickster afoot within the weird works that way. Still, there are those who persist in finding answers in order to close the door on intruding events from other realms.
What if the witness had indeed seen something that could be compared to the creature in the movie Species? It is possible the creature did look like the Species figure; because it was that weird. But, as I've pointed out, to my eye the two share as many disimilar features as they do similar ones. Plenty has been written about Hollywood and government working together to releaseinformation disinformation on covert topics, like UFOs, aliens, war crimes and so on. That wouldn't quite explain all of the characteristics of the Species creature; the chupacrabas descriptions are as alike as they are different. And I'm not seriously suggesting Species was an intentional Hollywood/government disinfo movie.
It could be that the witness Radford references did see something out of place and unknown -- Forteana is full of out of place creature events -- and the closet she could get to describing what she saw was to compare it to something accessible to most in pop culture. Because she saw Species, comparing the chupacabras with the movie image, doesn't necessarily mean there wasn't a cryptid running amok at the time.

Nick Redfern's "There's Something in the Woods...": Animal Deaths & National Security
Nick Redfern, at his blog Monster USA, has a perspective on the animals deaths the world has been witness to since right before the new year:
"An issue that has not been addressed at length, however, is that relative to concerns that elements of the government may have with respect to these events. Is there official, behind-the-scenes worry about what is presently afoot? Very possibly."Animal Deaths and National Security, analyzes declassified FBI documents that reveal very disturbing facts about biological warfare.

More Bird Falls; Cover-Up's Begun?
On New Years, we saw roughly five thousand birds, mostly blackbirds, fall from the skies in Beebe, Arkansas. Authorities quickly arrived, in haz mat suits. Reasons from officials as to the cause of the birds falling to their deaths included spooked/disoriented from fireworks, storms... now it seems clear something else is afoot. Now Dead Birds Found In Louisiana:
10,000s of Birds found dead in Manitoba Authorities in Louisiana are telling people not to touch the birds, even though Dr. Jim LaCour with Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries "suggested that there might be no connection to the die-off in Arkansas on New Year's Eve and the one today in Louisiana."
An update on the Arkansas bird fall; the birds died from "blunt trauma" to their organs, mainly the liver . . . in mid-air! This suggests, possibly, some sort of weapons technology being tested. Sub-sonic is one possibility.
Today in LaBarre, Louisiana, about 500 dead blackbirds and starlings were discovered, say wildlife officials. The birds were discovered lying dead on roads between Morganza, La. and New Roads, La. on highway 10.And an as yet unconfirmed story of "10,000 birds" falling to their death in Manitoba, where authorities refused to talk to reporters.

Arkansas State Veterinarian Dr. George Badley tells Today's THV that preliminary test results show thousands of birds died mid-air due to multiple blunt trauma to their vital organs.
" Its not that unusual but that many it make you think that its not a disease its something cataclysmic that happened all at one time," says Badley.

Lair of the Beasts: Monsters at the Space Center - Mania.com
Juicy Fortean crazy out there stories (a good thing!) from Nick Redfern about NASA and Mothman. Yes, NASA and Mothman. Who knew?
Actually, the story gives support to the idea that the government had something to do with manipulating energies and opportunities within the Mothman event.

A Man And His Hobby
One scientist's hobby: recreating the Ice Age:
CHERSKY, Russia – Wild horses have returned to northern Siberia. So have musk oxen, hairy beasts that once shared this icy land with woolly mammoths and saber-toothed cats. Moose and reindeer are here, and may one day be joined by Canadian bison and deer.
Later, the predators will come — Siberian tigers, wolves and maybe leopards.
Russian scientist Sergey Zimov is reintroducing these animals to the land where they once roamed in millions to demonstrate his theory that filling the vast emptiness of Siberia with grass-eating animals can slow global warming.
"Some people have a small garden. I have an ice age park. It's my hobby," says Zimov, smiling through his graying beard. His true profession is quantum physics.
